Remarks:
In 1906 the Eastern Texas Railroad came under the control of the St. Louis-Southwestern Railway, a.k.a. the "Cotton Belt." One of the first moves of the new parent company was to organize all purely industrial tram routes under the name "Houston County Railroad." All former Eastern Texas locomotives were reassigned to the Houston County Railroad and operated exclusively between the woods and the mill. Accordingly, all trains in common-carrier service to Lufkin were to be operated by Cotton Belt crews using Cotton Belt equipment. As a purely industrial facility, the Houston County Railroad ceased operations along with the 4-C mill in 1918. The Eastern Texas ceased operations on May 1, 1921, but legal protests and hearings delayed the removal of the rail until 1924. -- Murry Hammond
